Abstract

Online social networking sites (SNS) have grown very fast for the last two decades. People share nothing with everything on these online social networks, and most users seem unaware of the privacy issues that these social networking sites can pose. Reviews of previous literature on information privacy stressed the importance of empirically evident factors affecting information privacy concerns. This paper aims to explore the factors of the information privacy concerns affecting the SNS. users. Three factors are identified, and a ten-item questionnaire is designed based on the previous literature. We selected users with more than three years of Facebook experience and executed a pilot test of 50 users confirming the reliability. We validated the identified factors as an enabler of information privacy concern for a population of 500 experienced Facebook users.
