Abstract

Special education, like mainstream education, is equally as important for an inclusive and progressive society where no student is left behind. However, due to lack of research and resource allocation to special education students with special needs do not have access to the same opportunities as compared to a mainstream student. The reason for this is lack of progression in the existing syllabus for children with special needs. This study aims to bridge the gap by providing a framework which integrates use of assistive technologies in the learning process. The study is focused children with hearing disabilities. 7 hearing disability students were sampled through convenience sampling. This study employs a pretest-posttest framework, using speech-to-text tablets and close captioned videos as educational methodology. Questionnaires were used as data collection tools that measured 3 variables, self-efficacy, discovery and information use. Findings suggested that there was significant improvement in two variables, namely self-efficacy and information use, and on the third variable, discovery, no change was observed.
