Abstract

This paper studies the usage of a dynamic particle in Malaysian Mandarin and its grammaticalization. The results show that people living in a multilingual environment tend to have language mixed in their linguistic expression. The findings show that the usage of one dialect influences the usage of another, which leads to contact-induced grammaticalization.
